NEC launches its latest small cell solution portfolio and shares its success stories at Small Cells World Summit 2012

***  For immediate use June 22, 2012

London, 22 June 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) will launch a new range of small cell products at Small Cells World Summit 2012, from 26 to 28 June 2012 at the Hilton London Metropole hotel .  These products will cover the entire range of small cell applications in the home, small, medium, and large enterprises, public spaces, as well as outdoor applications.

NEC's latest indoor small cells for homes and offices include advanced "plug and play" functionality. They enable end users to install the small cells quickly and easily, with no need for professional field engineers, planning or optimisation. The FP813 is optimised for the mass market and ideally suited to homes and small offices. While the more powerful FP1624 is ideal for medium-size enterprise and public access premises, typically spanning around 5,000m2 over several stories.

NEC's latest outdoor small cell, the FMA1630, provides mobile operators with a cost effective way of increasing the network coverage and capacity in outdoor environments. Furthermore, it offloads data traffic from the macro network to reduce CAPEX and OPEX. It also allows operators to bring 3G to some of the numerous smaller rural and suburban communities that until now could not be viably addressed by much costlier macrocell solutions.

NEC is also introducing a family of high-end enterprise products.  This new Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) technology - comprising an Enterprise Service Node and up to 75 Enterprise Radio Nodes - offers an alternative to traditional Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). It enables mobile network operators to deliver scalable indoor mobile access and application services to their large enterprise customers much more rapidly and cost-effectively than ever before. This solution can typically serve buildings of up to 50,000m2.

NEC has been shortlisted for the Small Cell Forum Industry Awards in the "Judges Choice" category for its use of an innovative business model that offers an OPEX-only solution for smaller mobile network operators. In addition, the Small Cell Forum has shortlisted two other projects that are supported by NEC's small cells solution, including Network Norway's "Full Dekning" ('full coverage'). The Small Cell Forum Industry Awards are one of the industry's most prestigious and respected events. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on 27 June.

During the conference, Martin Guthrie, head of Business Development at NEC Europe Ltd., will speak about "Deploying small cells in a big cell world". Presenting at 11:35am on 26 June, Mr Guthrie will discuss how mobile operators can develop successful business models in order to better generate revenue from small cell deployments.

Seshaiah Ponnekanti, pre-sales specialist at NEC Europe Ltd., will make a presentation on the topic of "Winning Enterprise Customers in an Era of BYOD (bring your own device)".  The presentation will be held on 27 June at 12:20pm.

Dejan Bojic, senior product manager, Backhaul, NEC Europe Ltd., will also make a presentation on the topic of "Requirements and solution architecture for small cell backhaul". The presentation will be held on 27 June at 1:10pm.

"We will be sharing our experiences of how our latest products and solutions deliver value in the residential mass market, enterprise, public hotspots and rural market segments to major operators around the world, at this largest industry event," said Anil Kohli, general manager at NEC Europe Ltd. "Some of these new products especially allow us to focus on the larger enterprise space where we can offer complete turn-key solutions including installation, commissioning, maintenance and service assurance coupled with premium grade technology."
