History

Electronic Order Terminal

The history of NEC's provision of retail solutions dates back to the early 1980s, an era that marked the beginning of store automation in Japan and launched a retail revolution. NEC not only provided solutions to its clients, but unlike conventional ERP solution providers, developed a highly synchronized strategy based on a detailed understanding of the target industry and customer needs. Consequently, NEC was successful in further product innovation and quick, proactive response.

Programable POS

Starting from its Electronic Ordering Terminal (top) and Programmable POS (left) in the early 1980s, NEC developed unique store solutions for various retail business processes. The next step in innovation was a handy Electronic Order Book (EOB) terminal with ordering function for store operations. As NEC's strategic partnership with clients matured, further innovations like store computers, graphic order terminals, and scanner terminals followed. These advances led to current retail solutions like payment systems, ATM systems and customer loyalty card systems that are able to handle complex processes.

Over the last 30 years, NEC pioneered various innovations such as flexible, programmable EAN/UPS barcode readers on POS systems, while providing retail solutions that meet the needs of its users.
