The NEC LT-W Android™ Cloud Communicator is a dual-screen book-style tablet, using the open-platform Android™ OS, which offers a rich variety of existing applications and facilitates easy development of custom applications. The LT-W is designed to fold flat and have all the portability and ease of use of a traditional notebook, plus instant access to information in the cloud via a range of built-in communication features include wireless, LAN, Bluetooth™ and 3G as a built-in option. Comfortably resting in the palm, the twin resistive touch screens of the LT-W can be operated by fingers, pen stylus, cursor buttons and on-screen soft keyboard. The dual screen format is highly versatile, facilitating the efficient use of the device for both reading cloud-based content and inputting notes and communications. In the healthcare environment, the LT-W has outstanding potential as a mobile device that will greatly enhance communication and collaboration between clinicians, technicians, nurses and other staff. As hospital IT systems embrace cloud computing, the NEC Cloud Communicator is positioned to be the device of choice for clinicians who need full and instant access to the cloud at every point on their rounds.

FieldAnalyst

photoFieldAnalyst for Signage

The NEC FieldAnalyst is a cutting-edge facial-recognition system, part of an advanced digital signage solution that can provide considerable benefits for hospital administrators. The system can distinguish the age range and gender of each individual looking at a screen or panel display. Its audience measurement technology measures the distance from the display where the individual stands and the time they spend actually paying attention to it. Administrators can now easily collect and analyze audience measurement data in order to tailor messages or programming for maximum relevance or to prompt interaction on the part of the viewer. In the healthcare environment, potential applications include integration with digital signage or for self-service kiosks to give people in waiting areas a more productive and interesting way to spend their time. The system's surprisingly effective face recognition accuracy tells you exactly what your audience is interested in watching, dramatically improving the efficiency and usefulness of your information delivery. Digital signage solutions can be scaled up to provide any level of panel management, distribution management, content management, schedule management, log management system and operational monitoring required.

ProgrammableFlow

photoProgrammableFlow Switch

The ProgrammableFlow OpenFlow-based network and product family streamlines datacenter network management through increased automation, reduces operational costs and accelerates delivery of services. For the first time, this enables your network to proactively address application performance and perform self-repair with automated re-configuration in the event of hardware failure – without human intervention! This programmability contributes both to high availability of critical business processes, and decreased network management costs. A next-generation network delivering a flattened, open network topology, ProgrammableFlow cost-effectively provides simplified, scalable network management and control based on your business policy. Each system consists of ProgrammableFlow software residing on a centralized controller, ProgrammableFlow hybrid switches, which work in OpenFlow environments as well as traditional tree topologies, and a centralized visualization capability, which monitors end-to-end each individual flow transported over the PF network. Benefits include integration of network policy and server virtualization, reducing IT resources needed for configuration and network management; the ability to build secure, multi-tenant cloud networks, enabling service providers to build new revenue streams and offer new services cost-effectively; policy-based intelligent flow networking for improved performance of enterprise applications; accelerated delivery of new services and applications, which can drive new business revenues; end-to-end visualization and network self-repair to support high availability; and recovery of software development and network admin resources that can be re-deployed.

e-Pathologist

photoAnalysis of HE slides

The e-Pathologist Digital Pathology Diagnosis Assistance System uses "machine intelligence" to detect tissue and cell features and make quantitative measurements of key structures in digitized images of tissue slides to assist pathologists in making decisions that may contribute to the clinical management of cancer. The tissue sections can be stained conventionally with Hematoxylin & Eosin or with a special staining procedure using immunohistochemistry reagents. NEC has been developing the e-Pathologist system since 2003, based on its advanced image analysis, recognition and machine learning technologies. With the advent of fast scanners that generate digital images of tissue slides, the workflow of the pathology laboratory can be enhanced in a cost effective manner by leveraging the advantages of digital images for both quantitative and semi-quantitative analyses. As the number of cases and resulting tissue samples requiring evaluation by pathologists increases, and the number of diagnostic tests deployed for grading and other tests for cancer grows, the use of digital pathology technologies is becoming an important component of improved patient care. NEC is working with a number of partners to integrate e-Pathologist with other core digital pathology tools, such as Philip's ultra-fast slide scanner. With the increasing workload on pathologists, the e-Pathologist system offers the potential to boost efficiency and improve patient care in tomorrow's medical institutions.
