NEC Digital Cinema Solution provides comprehensive support for digital cinema, from projectors to distribution systems for large-volume content to theaters such as DCP (Digital Cinema Package) and HD content. NEC has developed these systems based on the DCI* standard.
* DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) is an industrial organization formed by six major U.S. motion picture studios: The Walt Disney Company, 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Film-based movies have been physically delivered and screened by 35mm film projector for over a century since their invention. Recent concerns about increasing manual operating cost, security, and environmental issues have led to the digitalization of cinema production and screening processes. Innovative filmless digital cinema has emerged, thanks to advances in digital technology. Digital cinema operation follows the “DCI standard” of digital cinema specifications first established in 2005, and the standization has been promoted by SMPTE with more than 100 specifications releases.
This DCI standard establishes system specifications for digital cinema operation, including data compression formats and mechanisms for log collection and monitoring, as well as security measures.
NEC has been a pioneer in digital cinema technologies from the outset, creating a track record of success in this area. For instance, our digital cinema equipment is now in use at the renowned Mann's Graumen's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
NEC Digital Cinema Solution provides total support for digital operation. It consists of various hardware and software products, such as digital cinema distribution servers and key distribution servers based on the DCI standard, including products that can be optimally customized to satisfy different business requirements. Drawing on NEC's expertise in imaging, we can provide the best solutions for a wide range of customers.

The NEC DLP Cinema® projector complies with the Hollywood DCI standard. Using the DLP® method, this projector reproduces images precisely as intended by cinema producers or distributors. Only three companies in the world are allowed to use this DLP Cinema® technology.
The Center System provides systematic distribution of digital cinema content to theaters in various locations. This key distribution system executes deployment of the KDM (Key Delivery Message), the digital cinema key to decryption, to each theater according to the theater's show schedule. Show performance status related to equipment and network is centrally monitored to ensure high availability of cinema service to audiences.
