A legacy network is constructed by integrating various network products, and operating one is still manually laborious work. However, as IT systems have been migrating to cloud systems through virtualization technologies and automatic mergers has progressed greatly this decade. Legacy networks are also evolving to a new intelligent level thanks to recent technological breakthroughs such as virtualization technology and programmability achieved with SDN (Software-Defined Networking).
NEC and some universities have intensively researched “OpenFlow,” which is the core of SDN for a few years, was just launched to market. Through OpenFlow based network virtualization technology and its integration with IT virtualization, total flexibility and reliability for whole cloud systems is expected to finally be achieved.

We developed our first products to use OpenFlow technologies, and these products have been adopted by leading companies and organizations. Now, our SDN technologies are aimed for both quick construction and flexible operation of enterprise systems and carrier networks.
Due to the dramatic improvement of network speed and performance in IT systems, we are confronted with more pronounced performance bottlenecks and huge security costs.
Our SDN technologies link network control to IT resource control and enable the flexible construction and operation of scalable and secure systems

Carrier networks cause a breakdown in revenue models due to the increase in telecommunication traffic and the high cost of system changes and delays in installing new services.
Therefore, we provide flexible system construction and OPEX/CAPEX reduction by implementing network functions through software on commodity hardware. This is a new paradigm for building carrier networks.

We build synergy through in-house global collaboration between our laboratories in Japan, the US, the EU, and China, pursue external collaborations in Japan, America, and Europe, and implement field trials, experiments, and standardization activities.
