Mission
Various changes are taking place in our energy use environment, such as rising energy demand caused by population growth and the economic growth of emerging countries, the increasing complexity of energy issues such as how to curb CO2 emissions and procure and secure resources, and further, changes spreading in the electric power infrastructure and energy supply-demand system in the wake of large-scale disasters. How to achieve an energy-saving, low-carbon society along with economic growth, and thus a sustainable society, is a key issue facing us. To resolve it, it will be indispensable to balance efficient energy use with comfortable living, create new business opportunities, and propose new approaches to energy use.
The Smart Energy Research Laboratories contribute to the creation of new value in the field of the environment and energy by generating energy-related innovations and developing powerful technologies that play a core role in dealing with complexity. To this end, we conduct research and development of energy components and energy management that enable more sophisticated energy use. We are also working on research and development of energy devices that use new materials and new operating principles.
We will carry on developing fundamental technologies that support sophisticated control of energy operation using information and communication technology in global collaboration with internal and external partners.
