Mission

To expand and further strengthen the cloud service business deployed by the NEC Group, the Information and Media Processing Laboratories are cultivating interface system between real-world and a cloud system.


Recent technical innovations connect various systems and will offer us a wide-variety of ambient services to support our comfortable daily life / efficient business operations. To design on-the-fly customized ambient service for individual user, an interface connecting between real-world and a cloud system should be expanded to understand the latest situation of the user and to actuate the situation for global optimization. We are developing the following innovative functionalities using the state-of-the-world media processing and understanding technologies;


  1. Stable sensing of user’s behavior and conditions in real-world robust against environmental changes to form various kinds of high-quality media signals,
  2. Machine understanding of the sensed signal to extract its semantics or context,
  3. Actuation to the real-word (user or environment) through the delivery of the service to optimize the user’s behavior and the condition,
  4. Design of an efficient ICT platform to process huge amount of continuous media stream data

Through the development of these functionalities, we will implement a novel ICT system based on real-world data and contribute to create an information society friendly to humans and the Earth.
