Mission
Green Platform Research Laboratories are responsible for the research and development of the platforms of communication, processing, and sensing/actuation to realize an Information Society Friendly to Humans and the Earth.
Progress and development of cloud computing and terminal devices have caused a continuous traffic increase in both wired and wireless communication systems. At the same time, social demand to fault-resilient systems is growing. We work on the research and development of not only increase of communication capacity, but also sophistication of network infrastructure that prepares against natural disasters and social threats.
In the realization of IT systems, in order to solve the problem of size and power increase by scale-out architecture, we are developing low-power technology and highly efficient cooling technology including the facility. We are also tackling hardware / software platform technologies using many-core processors and programmable devices in scale-up architecture. In addition, our research area covers the study of utilizing new, emerging devices such as Si photonics and spintronics through open innovation from a medium- to long-term perspective.
With the progress of cloud computing, a new tornado, such as M2M (Machine to Machine), IoT (Internet of Things), Big Data, and CPS (Cyber Physical Systems) will continue to expand. It will become important to collect a diverse and large amount of information in real world in real time, to extract the value from the information, and to feed back the value to real world. We work on the research and development of sensing solutions utilizing the vibration sensor technology held by NEC, and new technology of sensing/actuation through global open innovation.
Through these research and development, we contribute to the sustainable growth of society and to the stability and development of global society.
