Notes on using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Connection is cancelled when the Windows Firewall settings are changed after a TCP/IP connection is established between iSM clients and a server.

Situation

While using an NEC Storage Manager (iSM) client on a PC running Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2), if the Windows Firewall settings are changed after a TCP/IP connection is established between iSM clients and a server, the iSM clients/server detects channel abnormalities and ends the connection.

Conditions

This occurs when all of the following conditions are met:

  1. An iSM client is used on a PC running Windows XP SP2.
  2. Windows Firewall was set as follows before an iSM client/server connection is established ([Control Panel]-[Windows Firewall]-[General]):
    1. Windows Firewall is "ON."
    2. "Don't allow exceptions" is unchecked.
  3. The Windows Firewall settings are changed as follows after an iSM client/server connection is established:
    1. "Don't allow exceptions" is checked.

How to handle

Do not change the Windows Firewall settings after an iSM client/server connection is established. If the problem occurs, re-establish the connection. The iSM client/server does not have to be restarted, but wait for a few minutes if connection must be re-established.
