Data compression with deduplication for storing a large amount of data efficiently
Recently more and more companies are shifting from using traditional tape based backup to using disk backup with deduplication. NEC Storage HS3 can efficiently store large amounts of data with its deduplication and data compression technology, reducing the space required to store tapes. In addition, cumbersome work such as the handling of physical media is no longer necessary, and the automation of various tasks reduces the effort and time required to backup and restore. Additionally, remote replication allows disaster prevention measures to be taken economically.

It compares the data blocks to be newly written and data within the storage, and deletes duplicated data to dramatically improve the capacity efficiency. With the deduplication technology and physical compression, the storage data can be compressed by 20 times or more. By distributed redundancy allocation technology, reliability and tolerance to concurrent multiple failures surpassing the RAID performance are achieved. It divides backup data into multiple blocks, adds a special parity to data, and distributes them to multiple disk drives for storage. It enables recovering data even when failure concurrently occurs in multiple storage locations. Data loss can be avoided even in the case when malfunction occurs in three disk drives concurrently.

Economical and secure disaster countermeasures can be taken
Even if you wish to store the backup data at a remote location in the case of an earthquake or fire, replication with a regular SAN storage requires high-speed line, resulting in high cost… With “DataRedux” technology, “NEC Storage HS3” transfers only the data not stored in the remote site. Thus, the amount of data transferred can be reduced and remote replication can be performed with low-speed line at a low connection fee. With this, data loss at a disaster can be reduced to the minimum level economically. In addition, enhanced security is achieved by the replication packet encryption feature, which protects important user data from eavesdropping by third parties during replication and maintains confidentiality.
Tamper-proof feature for data protection
The WORM (Write Once Read Many) feature is available to protect data from unauthorized tampering or erroneous operation. You can specify the protection period for each file, and protected files cannot be updated even by the administrator during the period.
Improve efficiency in backup operation by incorporating the increment
The backup operation takes longer as the amount of data increases. The HS Series does not require the traditional periodical full backup, and performs only the incremental backup. After performing one-time full backup at first, it only backs up the daily increment and then the full backup is incorporated automatically in high speed. This can drastically shorten the time required for backup.
