This section answers typical questions from customers concerning NAS.
A: No separate administration servers are required because NEC Storage NV Series management components are already in place on the server.
A: NFS, CIFS, FTP and HTTP protocols are supported.
A: Yes. The NEC Storage NV Series products also support 10/100BASE interfaces.
A: No. An NEC Storage NV Series main body does not accept any direct connection of a console.
A: The snapshot function is used for storing a snapshot picture of the file system status at a point in time. An NEC Storage NV Series system can store up to 255 generations of snapshots. By using the snapshot function, backup and recovery operations can be realized without interrupting services while file systems are synchronized.
A: Yes. The system is designed for disaster recovery. The NEC Storage NV Series support replication functions between enclosures.
A: Storage areas for snapshots are dynamically allocated from usable file system capacity upon data updates. The capacity to be allocated for snapshots varies depending on number of snapshot generations or amount of data to be updated. It is therefore needed to carefully determine the amount of data, number of generations to be stored, and frequency to take snapshots. For example, we may assume a case where data is updated to create a generation once a day while 5% of data is updated per day for a total of 100 GB of data. Then, some 5 GB of disk space would be consumed by one generation.
The following are the maximum capacities for respective systems: (with 147 GB disk drives)
- NV5300S : 8.6TB
- NV5300 : 8.6TB
- NV7300S : 36.7TB
- NV7300 : 74.1TB
- NV7300GS : 80TB
- NV7300G : 80TB
A: Yes. It is surely possible.
