The OSCP NAS test is for using NAS (Network Attached Storage) as a storage unit for placing data files and log files of Oracle databases.
NAS is an appliance product specialized for file service purposes and uses widespread Ethernet-based networks to provide storage. With NAS, it is possible to reduce storage management loads whose volume continues to increase and also to flexibly expand storage volume.
NAS provides files by using NFS for UNIX systems and CIFS for Windows systems.
In general, storage provided by NFS could generate problems when used as storage for data and logs of Oracle databases due to functional differences from local storage devices (DAS or SAN storage).
The NEC Storage NV series have the following functions that are essential for using NFS storage for Oracle databases in order to ensure compatibility with Oracle databases.
Furthermore, the NV Series NAS has high-performance TOE, high-performance RAID controlled LSI, large-capacity nonvolatile main storage, redundant hardware with high failure resistance, and a dedicated OS tuned only for NAS so that it can provide high-performance and high-reliability storage for Oracle database purposes.
NEC obtained the OSCP test kit from Oracle to test compatibility of the NEC Storage NV series as storage for placing data files and log files of the Oracle database. NEC as a result passed various tests that Oracle had as the OSCP compatibility conditions.
Tests were conducted in the following conditions. NEC plans to sequentially conduct tests on application of the function to various types of platform.
| OS/Platform | Oracle Version |
|---|---|
| Solaris 9 (Sun Microsystems) | 9iR2 |
| Solaris 9 (Sun Microsystems) | 10gR1 |
Details of the result of the OSCP Snapshot category test using the NV Series NAS are disclosed as the NEC Storage NV Series Guide to Oracle Storage Compatibility Program Network Attached File Server Technologies.
