Presented here is an example system to use Oracle 9iFS.
Problems prior to implementation
Research students tend to store various kinds of study data and study reports using different servers and PCs making information sharing and unified file management insufficient. Because of this, information search capabilities are also limited.
Solutions and effects
- A vast amount of files in various categories is integrated in a single storage system for realizing unified control and sharing of information.
- The Internet File System of Oracle 9i is used for enabling unified management of various types of files in addition to offering high-speed search capability, high data reliability, and transaction control functions of an RDBMS. Searching, updating, and deleting data can be freely and easily performed in the same way as with typical file systems.
- Since a total of about 30,000 people including research students and graduate students are expected to access the system in the future, realization of high processing speed and high availability under heavy loading conditions is considered an essential requirement and is the reason for introducing the NEC Storage system.
- Because of a limited budget, an NEC Storage S1000 series unit was proposed for low cost implementation.
