  1. Install linux-headers and make from DVD media
    # apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.26-2-686 (Deb5.0x86)
    # apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.26-2-amd64 (Deb5.0x86_64)
    # apt-get install make
  2. gcc setting
    # ln -s /usr/bin/gcc-4.1 /usr/bin/gcc
  3. Update e1000e driver
    # tar zxvf e1000e-1.2.10.tar.gz
    # cd e1000e-1.2.10/src
    # make clean
    # make
    # make install
    # modprobe -r e1000e
    # modprobe e1000e
    # mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img -2.6.26-2-686 (Deb5.0x86)
    # mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img -2.6.26-2-amd64 (Deb5.0x86_64)
When it is necessary, apt-get install bigmem kernel through network.
  1. # apt-get install linux-image-2.6.18-6-686-bigmem
    # apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.18-6-686-bigmem
  2. Booting into the bigmem kernel, update e1000e dirver for bigmem by executing above-mentioned again.
