Mission Critical Systems on the Cloud for Global Growth
Tomy Company, Ltd.
Case study of NEC Cloud IaaS
Tomy Company, Ltd. Representative Director, President & CEO H. G. Meij:
Tomy is a leading Japanese toy company with a long 90-year history of toy-making.
We make toys for all ages, like Tomica, Plarail and Licca-chan and so on.
We have a presence in over 130 countries and regions.
We have two main products in the global market: Transformers and Beyblades.
I believe toys transcend borders, cultures and generations.
One essential thing to planning global expansion is:
What about IT?
We had a challenge.
Our production plants could not connect well to our U.S. sales offices' computer systems.
We concluded that we should use NEC's cloud service.
Tomy Company, Ltd. Section Manager System Planning Department Corporate Planning Division Hisayuki Nishikori:
We chose NEC's cloud because of
- Quick migration
It took only 3 days to migrate the system.
Putting all our data on the cloud was a huge advantage.
Cloud and housing are located in the same environment, so migration from housing to cloud is smooth.
When we're busy we can add whatever memory or hardware we need.
So it's an environment that makes us confident, we can deliver products to children safely.
Using a reliable data center, significantly shortens times for maintenance and failure recovery.
In the next 5 years, we aim to cut operation management costs by 20%.
I think using the cloud and the data center expands our means to do so.
For example, if we start up new operations in a new country,or when we open a new branch or sales office, local employees can access the database or the business system on the cloud from day one.
I expect that access to our systems will also accelerate our global expansion.
I believe we can use NEC's cloud to bring our domestic and overseas operations closer together, and integrate them as needed.
In addition to transcending cultures and borders, IT services need to be speedy, reliable and secure.
We will proactively introduce NEC's new technologies to drive global expansion for us.
