NEC's POS system makes purchase, sale and inventory management easier. [ 03:30 ]
Taipei, Taiwan. In Taiwan alone the convenience chain store 7-Eleven has 4,300 shops with another 300 opening each year. 7-Eleven shops stay open around the clock.
Small convenience stores don’t have stock rooms. So the challenge for 7-Eleven was to find a just-in-time monitoring system which would tell them exactly what stock needed re-ordering, while at the same time giving them detailed analysis of customer buying trends.
7-Eleven was a pioneer in the introduction of cutting edge total management systems – and is today the standard for the industry. The current 6th generation system is a leading product in the market due to NEC’s long-term relationship with the client, based on achievement, trust and ever-evolving technology.
NEC Taiwan has 20 years experience in the market. We felt good about handing the project to them because of their support of both hardware, software and after service. When compared to the first generation this is a total solution.
The NEC system involves the use of twin screens at the checkout. Currently the customer’s screen is programmed to show 7-Eleven promotions but in future it will allow the buying public to key in their own order, even withdraw cash.
The cashier’s screen details the sales information which is relayed to the store computer in a back office. Here NEC software can analyse purchasing trends by date, time of day, weather, even age and sex. At the checkout this customer is entered as female aged 19-35.
The customer purchased a yoghurt. It was one of only 3 left on the shelves. At the daily stock take the shop manager records this information on another piece of NEC technology, a hand-held wireless PDA. The information is fed from the shop’s computer to a central warehouse from where supplies will be dispatched on the next delivery.
With the introduction of the online pre-purchase system, the supplier can now know the quantity the consumers want and can then meet their needs on time.
NEC technology enables 7-Eleven managers to check inventory and both track and analyse sales with unsurpassed efficiency, which in turn delivers to their customers the very best of service.
The customers can enjoy faster service as well as the food and beverage we have traditionally provided. Thanks to the system we can also offer services like cash withdrawals and bill payments. This lets them carry out an otherwise tedious task quickly.
NEC in Taiwan with its POS PDA solution is empowering 7-Eleven to offer the best in customer service. Convenience shopping has never been better. NEC empowered by innovation.
7-Eleven is known worldwide for its chain of franchised convenience stores. In Taiwan alone the company has 4,300 shops with another 300 opening each year. 7-Eleven shops famously stay open around the clock.
Keeping the shelves stocked with so many goods in so many outlets is a huge logistical operation in itself. Small convenience stores don’t have stock rooms - it's all about moving goods as fast as possible.
What 7-Eleven Taiwan was looking for was a just-in-time monitoring system which would tell them exactly what stock needed re-ordering and when. But suppose the same technology could also give them detailed analysis of customer buying trends?
