At the heart of the city center lies the Sofitel. The hotel brand with the world-wide reputation for the highest quality.

THE CHALLENGE

Sofitel Melbourne wanted to enhance the experience of guests by providing better communication so that guests knew what was going on in the hotel and to provide information for those attending conferences, events and parties.
It was important that the new technology not only fit in esthetically. But also employed a unique communications system which would be easy to use, allow real time changes and yet be flexible enough to customize.

Clive Scott, GENERAL MANAGER, SOFITEL MELBOURNE:
"Well, what we were looking for was to reach the customer and to reach the customer short period of time. Hotels had been using paper signage, and people have moved to signage which is, you know, bright, colorful, you can put more images moving, to reach the customer a lot quicker and more information in a short period of time."

THE SOLUTION

NEC's digital signage was the solution. Five screens are placed at strategic locations to help display hotel events, advertising the hotel services and scheduling information for those attending conferences.

"Well, If you attend a conference and you arrive at the hotel, and what you're really looking for is information straight away. I want to know where to go. They'll go to the screen, they'll read the information and it's very effective to tell them very quickly where to go."

THE TECHNOLOGY

NEC digital signage can blend video, image and text. The ability of the technology to incorporate moving pictures within the text is a crucial element.
But the technology has to be appropriate to the decor. NEC worked closely with Sofitel's designers, customizing their frames to match the elegance of the hotel. The system has been designed for ease of use. Programmable from a laptop and requiring no IT expertise. It's broad enough to screen content from almost any kind of application and resource.
