Worldwide NEC Initiatives

We are conducting field trials for the standardization of cloud services that support the charging infrastructure.

EV fast chargers will be installed at field sites including Yokohama City's Minato Mirai 21 district, JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation's Hatsuyama Service Station (in Miyamae-ku, Kawasaki City) and NEC's Tamagawa Plant (Nakahara-ku, Kawasaki City). We are evaluating self-service charging systems that can be remotely operated and maintained. We are also conducting tests on electric vehicle map displays showing charging stand information and how to link member authentication between different cloud services.

Japan: Collaboration with Chugoku Electric Power Co. in the Demonstration Experiments of the Transfer Cutout System for Distributed Power Sources

NEC and Chugoku Electric Power Co., one of Japan's largest power companies, are working together to develop and conduct a demonstration experiments on a cutout system for distributed power sources. The goal is to be able to provide a stable supply of high-quality electricity to customers even in areas where a high volume of distributed power sources such as household solar power generation have been adopted.

In conjunction with Arena Pernambuco Consortium, a subsidiary of the Odebrecht Group that is promoting urban development, NEC will participate in a Smart City development project being planned for one of Brazil's core cities. The partners will propose a next-generation urban infrastructure that maximizes the capability of ICT, allowing this region to develop as a center of tourism and logistics.

NEC and Enel Distribuzione (ENEL), the distributor for Enel SpA, the leading Italian power company, have agreed to build a strategic partnership to develop new Smart Grid technologies and solutions.

NEC is collaborating with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the largest electric power laboratory in the United States, to evaluate a large energy storage system that utilizes NEC's lithium-ion battery technology. R&D aims to expand the scope of the system's application and realize a large-scale energy storage system that offers high-level reliability, large capacity and long life.
