iStorage StoragePowerConserver Environmental Impact Evaluation Model
What is the StoragePowerConserver?
The StoragePowerConserver is software that reduces the power consumption of iStorage by controlling the utilization status of the HDD that forms the iStorage volume using NEC's specific technology, thereby preventing the operation of unused HDD. Power consumption is reduced by operating the HDD that are not in continuous use only when necessary for backup operations or archive operations.
In the conventional system, all the HDDs operate 24 hours × 365 days, constantly consuming power. By operating backup HDD only when necessary (8 hours/day for one generation) through the introduction of the StoragePowerConserver, power consumption can be controlled, thereby reducing the environmental impact.

As a result of the introduction of the StoragePowerConserver, the power consumption is minimized, thereby reducing the amount of CO₂ emitted by 31%.
