By harmonizing IT, which is our own business domain, with the environment, NEC hopes to implement its Environmental Management concept. To clearly express this idea, NEC launched the concept of "Ecology through IT" in FY 2003, and we are accelerating the proliferation of specific actions toward environmental management both within and outside NEC.

Ecology through IT is the idea of contributing to the reduction of social environmental impacts throughout all phases of NEC's business activities.
IT reduces the movement of people and goods, thereby contributing to the environment. One negative aspect of IT on the environment is the consumption of electric power. This negative aspect can be curtailed through the reuse of products and parts power consumption reductions for products and parts, as well as the utilization of ecological materials.
Reducing environmental impacts by skillfully applying IT has started to attract public attention. An announced trial calculation stated that a change in social structure through IT could reduce CO₂ emissions by about 33.9 million tons per year by 2010.
In line with the idea of Ecology through IT, NEC will continue to be active in reducing environmental impacts in the following ways in order to fulfill its responsibility and role as a member of society.
