The environmental management audit conducted by the NEC Environmental Management Division in FY 2011 was designed to broaden the scope of auditing while at the same time making auditing more efficient. This was achieved by taking measures such as concentrating more on areas identified as problematic, expanding the range of digital auditing (at subsidiaries and internally), and assigning auditors more effectively.
At NEC affiliates, auditors are assigned to each affiliate company from NEC to conduct "Reciprocal Environmental Audits" in which the companies audit each other in accordance with the standards of the environmental management audits.
The items identified as requiring improvement were mainly related to the setting of targets and progress management. Fewer items related to the creation and management of the annual action plan, including its format, were identified as problematic in FY 2011, due to the adoption of a standardized format and successful efforts to ensure that all employees understood how the action plan would be managed.
