Network Sensor

Sensor system

Meteorological observation sensor system (product name: Weather Bucket)1

A meteorological observation sensor system (product name: Weather Bucket) was installed during rice planting in the second year of the project (FY 2006). Since then, various meteorological data has been continuously measured.
In what environment does the rice planted by us grow and in what dwellings do many of the living organisms that frequent the paddy field in ravine live? These questions can be analyzed using the meteorological data collected by this sensor system.

1.Introduction of sensor system

  1. Measurable items
    • Air temperature, humidity, air pressure, amount of solar radiation, amount of precipitation, wind direction, wind speed (average and maximum instantaneous), underwater (soil) temperature
  2. Features
    • Seven types of sensors are installed as an integrated unit
    • An eco product driven by a solar battery
    • Measurement data is recorded every ten minutes
    • In addition to wireless automatic collection of data, data for about three months is stored

  3. Weather Bucket is a product of SEC Corporation (NEC-NET Group). For more information about the product, please visit the SEC Corporation's website.

2.Measurement data

Graph comparing maximum air temperatures in the summers of 2005 and 2010

2010 was a year of fierce heat. As the data of the same period in 2005 shows, tropical days exceeding 30°C in maximum temperature continued after the Bon Festival on August 15. Days on which temperature did not lower even during the night continued into September. This caused harvested rice to turn milky white.
