Rated power

The level of power consumption (watts) that can be handled by a resistor. The power is calculated by multiplying the squared current (I²) by the resistance (R). If the device is used with a power value higher than this figure, the resistor will catch fire.

Rechargeable battery

A type of rechargeable chemical battery that uses a chemical reaction from metal compounds such as nickel and lithium to create electricity. Small rechargeable batteries are collected and recycled by battery and device manufacturers in accordance with the Law for Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources.

Recycle

The reuse of waste material by various means. Examples include paper recovery, metal collection, use as combustion improvers, and heat recovery.
→ Thermal recycling, Material recycling, Chemical recycling, 3R

Recycled NuCycle

This is a combination of Nucycle and recycled plastic. This material has less degradation of solid-state properties than conventional NuCycle and is easier to recycle.

Recycled plastic

Recycled plastic is plastic that has been recycled from discarded products or the plastic bits generated through disposal from a manufacturing line or defective products. (However, this does not include plastic recycled and reused as a raw material in the same process.)

Recycling Law

A Japanese law to promote the maximum reuse of waste materials as resources. The law strengthens regulations on manufacturers, requiring them to promote product designs that facilitate recycling and to attach markings to products.

Recycling rate

This is the ratio of the weight of reused, material-recycled, and thermal-recycled items to the total weight of collected used IT devices.

Reduce

Resource productivity

Resource productivity = Sales/(Volume of purchased resources + Energy used) x Resource input coefficient

Resource recycling

This means to promote reuse and recycling by effectively using resources in accordance with the 3R principle (reduce, reuse, recycle).

Resource reuse rate

This is the ratio of the weight of materials that can be used as recycled products or resources to the total weight of collected used IT devices.

Risk management

Based on the results of risk assessment (a method whereby the degree of risk is evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively), this method controls (and prohibits) the degree of risk so that it is held below a fixed value. Also refers to the use and management of radiation and chemical substances, general risk, and more broadly, that of societal systems and institutions.

RoHS Directive

This is Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment The directive restricts the use of environmentally damaging substances in electric and electronic products sold in the European Union. In principle, the following six substances are prohibited: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE).
