Off mode

In most electronic devices, power is supplied to the device during standby mode as well as normal operation. The power consumed during standby represents a large proportion of the overall power consumption of the device. Off mode is a useful function designed to save power during standby. Shifting to off mode when a device is not being used for an extended period of time provides considerable energy savings.

Output

The number of products manufactured and the quantity of chemical substances, water, waste materials, etc., emitted as a result of business operations.
Input, mass balance

Ozone depleting substances

Although the ozone layer should be a uniform thickness in the upper atmosphere, places where the ozone is thinning out have recently been observed, particularly over Antarctica. This phenomenon is known as ozone depletion. Typical ozone depleting substances are chlorofluorocarbons. Chlorofluorocarbons are extremely stable substances that accumulate in the troposphere and are then dispersed into the stratosphere. They are then dissolved by strong solar ultraviolet radiation in the stratosphere, and produce chlorine atoms. These atoms react with and destroy the ozone.

Ozone layer

A region of the upper atmosphere, between 20 and 30 km in altitude, consisting mainly of ozone (O₃). The ozone layer absorbs solar ultraviolet radiation, thus protecting organisms on the Earth from its harmful effects.
