CO₂
Carbon dioxide. A gas that is generated by the respiration of living organisms and the combustion of fossil fuels, etc. Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases. The large amounts of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by factories, etc., burning coal and oil have become a leading cause of global warming.
CPU frequency
The operating frequency of the CPU (central processing unit) in personal computers, etc. The higher the operating frequency, the greater the CPU's processing capacity.
CRT display
A display device that uses a Braun tube. CRT displays operate on the same principle as televisions and are mainly used as monitors for desktop computers.

Car pooling
Car pooling is a system by which members of a group share a vehicle to reduce the volume of traffic on the roads and reduce the impact of traffic on the environment.
Cellular manufacturing
A style of manufacturing by which parts and products are manufactured in cell units by a single operator who performs much of the work on that part or product. This manufacturing style is especially effective when carrying out high-mix, low-volume production.
Chemical recycling
This means reusing used substances by treating them chemically and converting them into other usable substances.

Co-generation system
This is a system by which hot water created using the residual heat from electric power generation is used in the heating system of homes and factories. Known also as CHP (combined heat and power), this system can raise heating efficiency by 35 to 75%.
Compost
Compost is extracted from food waste that is processed by equipment (a garbage disposal unit) that breaks down and biodegrades the waste using microorganisms that live in the ground. With some equipment, the compost is decomposed by the equipment and can be used without further processing. Whereas with other equipment, the compost must first be buried in the ground for a certain period to decompose.
