In the manufacturing and logistics industries, the overstocking of parts and products in the production and logistics processes wastes resources. More energy consumed to maintain or dispose of the stock, leading to an increased environmental impact.
To solve these problems, measures at the global level that cover the entire product life-cycle, not just part of a product's value chain, are necessary. This means that stock must be managed from the procurement of raw materials and parts, through manufacturing, logistics, and sales. Supply chain management, where the flow of supply from production to final demand (consumption and disposal)is clearly nderstood and all business processes are optimized, is already widely used. However, the utilization of ICT can help reduce energy consumption and environmental impact in all processes along the supply chain.

At NEC, we centrally manage information and share it with all divisions and companies involved in production processes by using ICT. We synchronize demand and supply by visualizing product life cycle values and supply chains, and help reduce CO2 emissions by reducing stock and goods-in-process.
We promote reuse of products and parts and resource recycling by centrally managing information on product substances, structures, usage records, and the traceability data of used and waste products. In this way we can improve how we dispose of waste and increase our recycling rate.
We will continue to promote environmentally friendly manufacturing by developing innovative information technologies that support design and production such as CAD and CAM. These innovations will reduce environmental impact and add value to our products.
