Development of technology to reduce standby power to zero in information devices

Lessening stand-by power with next-generation system LSI

Stand-by power is essential for the normal preservation of data in information devices, or to enable their quick start-up. Major contributions could be made if stand-by power were unnecessary, including certain savings on energy costs, as well as a solution to power shortage problems and a restraint on global warming.
The NEC Green Innovation Research Laboratories has chosen energy-saving integrated circuits as a research topic. In 2006, research was launched on a next generation system LSI with which programs and data do not disappear when the information device is turned off.
In order to contribute to global warming mitigation, the NEC Group will continue to actively engage our efforts in the development of energy-saving technologies.
