Artificial satellites that can survey the earth from space are indispensable to elucidating the mechanisms of climate change and the water cycle on a global scale. Surveys on greenhouse gas emissions, airborne particulates (aerosols), reflectance of the earth’s surface, precipitation and water vapor content, and surface temperatures are essential to the analysis of global warming, changes in the carbon cycle, climate change and changes in the water cycle. Data from surveys by artificial satellite, combined with survey data taken on the ground, will be utilized to elucidate the mechanisms of environmental change and improve the accuracy of climate models.
