Three years have passed since developing the NEC Group Environmental Management Action Plan 2017/2030 in 2010. Activities are promoted from the three perspectives of “Low carbon,” “Resource recycling and conservation,” and “Ecosystem and biodiversity preservation.” Activities to accomplish the action plan will be accelerated through further improvement of product energy efficiency, by providing solutions for a contribution to a reduction of CO₂ emissions by the customers and society and through other means.

The desire to popularize storage batteries increased following the Great East Japan Earthquake, arising from the need for stable energy supply and diversified energy sources in response to changes in energy output, and to secure emergency power. Moreover, in addition to increasing energy reduction needs, residential households also need the security of having access to power during emergencies and power-grid outages.
To answer these needs, NEC, ORIX Corporation, and EPCO Incorporated have combined their respective expertise and established the One Energy Corporation to provide a new energy service in which lithium ion battery storage systems will be rented out to residential users who are looking to adopt an energy philosophy of "good storage, smart use".
