Highlights of NEC's Environmental Activities in FY 2012

Two years have passed since developing the NEC Group Environmental Management Action Plan 2017/2030 in 2010. Activities are promoted from the three perspectives of “Low carbon,” “Resource recycling and conservation,” and “Ecosystem and biodiversity preservation.” Activities to accomplish the action plan will be accelerated through further improvement of product energy efficiency, by providing solutions for a contribution to a reduction of CO₂ emissions by the customers and society and through other means.

Beginning March 2012, NEC Corporation has started selling a household energy storage system equipped with lithium-ion storage batteries to partner companies including house builders and building material trading companies.
Implementing minutely thought-out functions such as peak-cut operation, the system also functions as a backup power source that maintains the lifeline in a disaster or a power failure. NEC will continue to support efficient energy utilization in entire communities placing the energy storage system that can be used in a wide range of applications as a core product.

Various problems await continuous evolution of business, while the trends of the times such as cloud computing and virtualization are captured. The main unavoidable challenge after the great disaster in March 2011 especially is "support for power saving (energy saving)." As a trump card of its electricity-saving products, NEC in FY 2012 developed a server and storage that endure an ambient operating temperature of 40°C. Various parts of the products incorporate NEC's pioneering care with details that can be provided precisely because NEC has dealt with energy- saving technologies and products for many years.
