Highlights of NEC's Environmental Activities in FY 2011

One year has passed since developing the NEC Group Environmental Management Action Plan 2017/2030 in June 2010.Activities have been kicked off from the three perspectives of "Low carbon," "Resource recycling and conservation," and "Ecosystem and biodiversity preservation." Results have already been produced as the introduction of "Entirely eco-friendly data centers" and "Entirely eco-friendly logistics."

Maintenance of a battery-charging infrastructure is necessary for full-scale penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) that are steadily spreading throughout the world as an environmentally sound transportation means. In the area of information networks in particular, standardization of communication interfaces that link various equipment will become necessary. As a member of the "Smart Network Project," NEC has conducted a demonstration test for developing the communication interface standard needed in building a battery-charging infrastructure.

As initiatives of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, a policy to spread advanced energy-saving technologies of Japan to the enterprises of Asia was developed to link to a new growth of Japan. Targeting software development firms in China, NEC conducted office energy-saving diagnoses utilizing IT. The diagnoses verified that installation of the energy-saving software "enepal PC," replacement of luminaires, and other measures can make a contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions.
