For Communities

Basic Policy

NEC will seek to accurately grasp social issues through dialog with stakeholders including local communities, as it promotes social contribution activities that solve those issues. At the same time, it will fulfill its social responsibilities as a "good corporate citizen."

Four Medium-Term Themes for Social Contribution Activities

To that end, NEC established four medium-term themes for social contribution activities that it ought to undertake based on seven CSR initiatives. These four are to “establish a safe and secure society,” “address climate change and environmental preservation,” “include everyone in the digital society,” and “Nurturing diverse human resources” with the aim of “realizing an information society friendly to humans and the earth.”

Specific programs are developed based on a number of fundamental policies, including the effective use of management resources, partnership with NPOs and NGOs, alliances with NEC Group companies and employee participation, and ensuring programs contribute to improving corporate value. A wide range of initiatives are then implemented in line with each theme.
NEC has established an assessment index to ensure the effective management and ongoing improvement of these programs, and each program is reviewed at the end of every fiscal year.

Achievements of Social Contribution Activities

NEC has continued to engage in reconstruction assistance endeavors since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011.
Employees taking part in these initiatives have identified the following areas of potential from social contribution activities.

The first is that partnerships with nonprofit and nongovernment organizations make social contribution activities more effective.
Needs in disaster areas gradually change with time and vary among regions. Under such circumstances, nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations close to communities can properly assess the opinions and needs of affected areas. By collaborating with these organizations, we can ensure that social contribution activities reflect community needs and secure community trust.

The second is that taking part in social contribution activities helps to develop employees who are very sensitive to the needs of communities and consumers.

Third, social contribution activities help to interest employees in communities while building company loyalty.

Fourth, social contribution activities foster employee teamwork, particularly awareness of “One NEC.” Many Group companies are engaged in reconstruction assistance efforts. By concertedly participating in these activities, NEC Group employees raise their awareness of “One NEC.”

The fifth area of potential is that social contribution activities make it possible to identify businesses that can help resolve community issues. Communities have various issues and needs, and ICT plays a major role in resolving them. We believe that immersing oneself through reconstruction support activities in disaster-affected areas can cultivate ideas for new solutions businesses.

NEC believes that social contribution activities can lead to various possibilities for companies and lead to improvements for society.
