High School Sign Language Speech Contest in Japan

Themes from Past Speech Contests

NEC has been supporting the "High School Sign Language Speech Contest in Japan" since FY1984 to help popularize sign language and volunteer activities, and to promote welfare education.

Applications are accepted from around Japan and the first elimination is based on the written manuscripts and a video tape of the contestants' sign language presentations. From among the applicants, ten finalists are chosen for the contest. The contest is judged in both sign language and verbal expressions based on the speech manuscripts, and through sign language and verbal questions and answers to determine the winners.

There is a theme every year, and the themes from the last five years are listed below.
