Seeing eye dogs are supported by donations and volunteers from their birth and until they are retired. Today, there are about 1,000 seeing eye dogs throughout Japan, but this number is still far smaller than the approximately 7,800 visually challenged people who want seeing eye dogs.
NEC supports the seeing eye dog training program of the Japan Guide Dog Association by holding charity golf competitions, supporting seeing eye dog enlightenment classes in elementary and junior high schools throughout Japan, and placing donation boxes in our in-house shops and offices.
NEC Guide-Dog Visits are used to teach elementary and junior high school students and their teachers and guardians about guide dogs through talks given by seeing eye dog users, having them take part in visual impairment simulations and guide dog demonstrations, etc. These classes help to gain understanding for making a social environment that is kinder to visually challenged people and their guide dogs.
