The "NEC Make-a-Difference Drive (NEC MDD)" is a volunteer activity that all NEC group employees worldwide participate in. NEC has been implementing the "NEC Make-a-Difference Drive (NEC MDD)" in which worldwide NEC group employees participate in a wide variety of social contribution activities in communities in various parts of the world as a one kind of social contribution activity for the realization of enriched society. In response to the President's call for the participation of NEC group employees, the NEC MDD is now implemented in various locations around the world.

Background

NEC is a global corporation. The company has research, production, and sales bases not only within Japan but also in many places around the world, and is engaged in a wide variety of businesses worldwide. Currently, NEC is implementing business activities as well as social contribution activities globally as a socially responsible good corporate citizen in order to coexist with local communities.

The NEC MDD started in 1999, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of NEC, as an initiative in regional community contribution activities with NEC group employees volunteering under the slogan "Let's start with a small step" based on the belief that employees' participation in these social contribution activities was highly important.

Objective

The objective of the NEC MDD is to allow NEC group employees to find something new within themselves, to foster a socio-centric corporate mentality, and to enhance the corporate value by making regional contributions through volunteer activities in various parts of the world.

Implementation

Implementation personnel (NEC MDD promotion coordinators) who are assigned to each base around the world create and promote activity plans that are appropriate for that particular area. The Social Contribution Office serves as an NEC MDD Promotion Head Office to supervise the entire NEC MDD.

Activity Policy

The basic policy of the NEC MDD is that activities should be planned and implemented in cooperation with regional NPOs or local governments, as many employees and officers as possible should participate in these activities, and the NEC employees should be able to enjoy continued participation in these activities mainly after work or on holidays with their coworkers or family members.

Period of Implementation

The NEC MDD implementation period is from April to March of the following year, and the period between October and December is designated as the priority implementation period.

Activity Themes

Activities are planned based on the NEC group's social contribution activity slogan "Nature, Education, Community: The Heart of NEC."

  • N (Nature) : global environmental protection
  • E (Education) : development of youth
  • C (Community) : addressing of regional issues

Description of Activities

NEC MDD activities can be roughly divided into voluntary activities and collection activities. In the voluntary activities, there is an NEC MDD promotion coordinator at each base who plans and implements activities that are appropriate for the current circumstances of that region. All activities implemented in each base can be seen in pictures of examples of domestic and overseas activities.

Collection activities are promoted by the Social Contribution Office targeting the entire NEC group. In these activities, items that can be easily collected from offices or households are collected to support developing countries through NPOs.
