NEC Make-a-Difference Drive 2011 Results
Out of all the activities the NEC group companies and departments participated in this volunteer program, the following prizes have been awarded to the most excellent activities which made a difference in the world.

The fiscal year 2011, 18 countries, 729 departments and 132,075 staff members participated and carried out 2,829 events. The volunteer time in total was 128,783 hours.
Activities in Japan
Grand Award: Herbal candles and folded cranes with prayers
- Participant:
NEC Soft, Ltd.
- Summary:
A new program, which was projected to support the people in Tohoku(the East Japan damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake), not just giving money but something. Thirty company staff members and other collaborative members provided candles and make them. A drawing that kindergarten kids drew was put on each candle jar, which looked nice. Those candles were sent to the memorial event, 3.11 Fukushima reconstruction prayers 2012. Collaborated with NPO, kindergarten, candle company and jar store, etc. Another project, to send flowers to Tohoku. Sent folded cranes, which paper to be dissolved in water. Each crane contains flower seeds in it. One hundred and thirty company staff members participated in this paper crane project and they made them at home.

NEC”TOMONI” project task force
- Summary:
This volunteer program has been implemented as a social contribution educational program in all domestic NEC group companies. Ten MDD(Make-a-Difference Drive) coordinators gathered and organized a task force to plan and implement the volunteer activities in Tohoku, which has been damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake. They continuously practice the volunteer tours almost once a month since July 2011. More than three hundred and sixty employees participated in the tour.
Bio-diversity Award: Extermination of adventive plant in Mt. Fuji
- Participant:
Abeam Consulting Ltd.
- Summary:
The employees and their families, twenty eight members in total participated in this program exterminating the adventive plant at the foot of Mr. Fuji. This cleanup program has been carried out for four years and this time they modified the contents adding the lecture class to study the importance of exterminating the adventive plant, not just clean up the mountain. It was a fulfilling event.
Business-Oriented Award: NEC software programming school

NEC Software Kyushu, Ltd.
- Summary:
This program has been carried out for five years. This year twenty five pairs of parent and child chosen by lottery participated in this class and enjoyed programming game software. Besides that, they have lectured how computers will make your life enjoyable and convenient and also introduced the asteroid probe Hayabusa that NEC involved in its development, operation and so on.
Creative-Plan Award: OneNEC in Hokkaido, “Let’s clean the town!” project

NEC(Hokkaido branch office) and all NEC group companies in Hokkaido(NEC Software Hokkaido,Ltd., NEC Networks & System Integration Corporation, NEC Fielding, Ltd., NEC Capital Solutions Limited, NEC Infrontia Corporation, NEC Mobiling, Ltd., NEC Logistics, Ltd., NEC Communication Systems, Ltd., NEC Lighting, Ltd.)
- Summary:
This was the first attempt to have an event that all ten NEC group companies in Hokkaido gathered in one place. The company staff and family, two hundred and fifteen people participated and cleaned up the side of the river, Toyohira. This event was covered by a newspaper too. People participated enjoyed working and the event was so successful.
Activities Outside Japan
Grand Award: Help and donation to flood victims at Ayutthaya and Ang-Thong Province

NESIC(Thailand) Ltd.
- Summary:
Support activities for the Thailand floods. Ten company staff members cooperated and delivered foods, drinking water and other essential items to the victims for twelve hours with no interval. Also, they participated in the volunteer work building a sandbag wall to protect the hospital where approx.1,100 patients stay from the flood damage. The hospital is only 100 meters away from the river.

Bio-Diversity Award: In-house Donation and Taihu (local lake) Protection Activity: Seaweed Cleanup by Stocking Fish

NEC Energy Devices (Wujiang) Co.,Ltd
- Summary:
With the in-house donation and company's support fund, they bought 20,000 fish which eat seaweeds covering Taihu and stocked them into the lake. This program has been carried out with a collaboration of Chiangsu Fisheries Management Association and the article of this activity has been posted at the government website.
Business-Oriented Award: Remove the digital divide in Blind people

- Summary:
They helped and supported Blind Development Educational and Vocational centre by providing five old computers in good working condition along with one year rent of their premises amounting to around 200,000 JPY. This has been carried out in responding to their strong desire to learn computers and make an independent living is outstanding.
Creative-Plan Award: Movember
- Participant:
NEC Australia Pty Ltd
- Summary:
Twenty staff members signed up to grow their moustache during Movember to raise awareness for men's health, particularly depression and prostate cancer. Staff were asked to support participants by donating money and organizing morning teas to raise awareness. In total NEC staff raised AUD $3,564 within a month period.
