At this very moment, vast amounts of information are being exchanged and shared by people all across the globe, and 99% of that is made possible by optical submarine cable systems. With a track record of laying more than 200,000km of cable - a length equal to five times around the globe - NEC is the leading company in optical submarine cable systems.

Whether it's the Internet, a global live broadcast, or an international phone call,
99% of international communication is being made possible with optical submarine cable systems.

Whether it's Facebook, YouTube or other digital contents from across the world, live coverage of international sports games, or international phone calls - did you know that 99% of your everyday international communication is delivered to you under the sea?
Optical submarine cables laid on the sea bed enable global communication by connecting continents.
From daily life to business, we're helping people all over the world to exchange and share information.

NEC has laid 200,00km of optical submarine cable to date -
A length equal to five times around the globe.

NEC provides a wide variety of services such as the production of submarine cables and submersible repeaters, but also marine survey - to determine the best route to lay cables on the vast sea bed - system design, construction and installation, and maintenance services for the entire system.
For over 30 years, NEC has acquired extensive experience of working on optical submarine cable projects on a global scale which total to more than 200,000km - a length equal to five times around the globe. Currently, NEC's submarine cable systems include the latest data transmission technologies capable of more than 80Tb/s of data traffic in a single submarine cable. This is more than 2,000 DVD movies per second.

A high-quality system with a Design Life of 25 years, and resistant to ocean depths equaling the height of Mt. Everest
Optical submarine cable: why NEC's unmatched quality counts.

An optical submarine cable linking Japan and the U.S. must cross the Japan Trench, an area 8,000m below sea level, almost equal to the height of Mt. Everest. Laying our cable to just the right location requires expert skills.
And, once the cable is laid on the deep seabed, conducting maintenance work is extremely difficult. NEC's optical submarine cable system is guaranteed a design life of 25 years, while resisting water pressure equaling 800atm.
