Application bundle for LS-DYNA

Windows-based HPC solution for LS-Dyna

NEC, GNS Systems and Microsoft® are offering a unique package!

A changeover from desktop computers to clusters raises many questions. NEC, GNS Systems and Microsoft® have put a package together, which is intended to facility entry. A turn-key and cost-effective HPC is being offered, specifically for calculations with LS-DYNA. For this, NEC is relying on the latest technology, but nevertheless well-proven platforms. The core of the package is the new Twin Server from NEW with Intel(R) processors.

NEC is one of the first manufacturers in the world, who can offer the first Enterprise Server with the Quad-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Series 5400 processor, with a 1600 frontside bus. The special feature is the NEC has installed 2 motherboards in a 1 U chassis, each with two sockets, this saves space and electricity. 16 individual cores and up 64 GB of main memory enable the calculation of conventional application cases in the automobile industry.

With this package solution, up to 4 such Twin Servers can be networked with a total of 64 individual cores, through integrated 2-port gigabit Ethernet controllers. The well-proven GE-Switch by HP Procurve 1400-8G with 8 ports is used here. Optionally, an Inifiband solution can also be chosen, where the on-board Mellanox InfiniBand SDR/DDR interfaces are combined with an 8-port Mellanox Switch, in order to achieve a higher bandwidth and lower latency.

The system is installed with Microsoft(R) Windows HPC Server 2008, which shows significant improvements over the 2003 version and guarantees a robust and cost-effective environment for calculations with LS-DYNA by DYNAmore. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) and Job Scheduler are already installed. The support and service takes place through GNS Systems.

As an entry package for a low rental price in the first 2 months. If you are interested, please contact Dr. Andreas Findling. Tel. 0711 780 5512.

NEC maintains its own competence centre for cluster solutions in Stuttgart. For 10 years, turn-key systems for crash-test simulations and other highly dynamic problems have been supplied to customers. CFD applications and applications for chemistry, meteorology and climate research are also calculated.Cluster installations by NEC are in use with many automobile manufacturers and suppliers and with various research institutions.
